Father's Day Love

Aright, well today is officially Father’s Day. And I have the bonus that not a lot of people have. I have two Dad’s. Not just two, but two who by all means didn’t have to stick around and love my stubborn my ass because I can be a real jerk sometimes. So this post is for them.

First, Dad, thank you for creating me! Now that that is out of the way we can get sentimental. I have some pretty awesome memories of you that I will always remember. I remember going to the gas station and getting junk food, and going to the school with you while you were working and getting into all sorts of trouble. I also remember when you drove bus while I was in Kindergarten and we would go out to Rosa’s pizza for lunch before your route. I loved that. I also loved going swimming in the pool while you mowed the lawn. So Dad, thank you for being my Dad.

Now to my Bonus Dad. Jim, Thank You. I wanted to thank you for everything that you have done in the past 10+ years. From loving Mom and taking care of her to the day she died, to making sure that Adam and I always had a working car (which, thanks for the new car!), to making sure that I always got to school and stayed out of trouble. But most of all, Thank you for choosing to love me even when you didn’t have too. Nowhere in the contract did it say that you had to stick around for the three monsters that my mom had, but you decided to, and I am so glad that you did. You have done so much for me that I am just in awe of the generosity that you have. Even though we may not share a drop of blood or have a single strand of DNA that matches, I am proud to call you my Dad.

I’m not sure who reads this, and hopefully whoever does realizes that a Dad, much like a Mom, cannot be replaced. So if you are lucky enough to still have your Dad around, love him and wish him a Happy Father’s Day. If you don’t have your Dad anymore, take this day to reflect on the memories with him and celebrate the life he had.
